Nutritional Benefits Of Marijuana

Nutritional Benefits Of Marijuana

By: Ruxx

Marijuana takes the title as one (if not) the most misunderstood natural occurring plants. For a long time, antimarijuana activists labeled the plant as an evil, psychoactive drug with little productive benefits to the body. However, a change in the legalization status of the plant, coupled with scientific research reveals that consuming marijuana might have more benefits than the occasional high.

The article considers some of the nutritional benefits of marijuana. Although research on the herb continues, some of the nutritional benefits are plain to see. For instance, the benefits of cannabis oils and chemicals (such as CBD) present but a small fraction of the immerse benefits marijuana holds.

Let’s take a look

Lots of Essential Nutrients
Consuming plants provides plenty of benefits for the body.(Leafy plants, in particular, are rich in vitamins and minerals which makes them one of the most nutritious foods that anybody can have). Raw marijuana contains plenty of leaves, seeds, and flowers rich in carbohydrates, essential oils, amino acids, and other organic chemicals that can help promote a healthy lifestyle. Unlike other green flowering plants, marijuana also contains terpenes and phytocannabinoids which provide immense benefits to the body.

Besides, there are numerous ways to consume marijuana. Edibles, for instance, are an excellent choice for consuming marijuana products (without the harmful effects of smoking). Some also prefer making Cannabis-infused tea and coffee which are also very healthy.

Terpenes
Terpenes have plenty of health benefits (source). For instance, they can affect mood, relieve anxiety, offer natural antiinflammatory options, etc. Marijuana is rich in terpenes, which also give the plant its beautiful aroma and taste.

Consuming marijuana products can help add terpenes to your body. For instance, medical marijuana patients can consume foods infused with CBD (which also contain terpenes minus the psychoactive effects associated with its cousin THC).

Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is a natural pigment that gives plant leaves its distinct green color. Kales, spinach, marijuana, and other examples of green leafy plants are rich in chlorophyll. The pigment has plenty of health benefits including vitamins and minerals.

For instance, research indicates that chlorophyll helps in repairing damaged DNA, improving blood oxygenation levels, detoxification, and prevent certain types of cancer (source). However, raw marijuana contains higher levels of pigment when compared to dried cannabis.

Phytocannabinoids (Acids)
Phytocannabinoids are chemical compounds unique to the cannabis plant. Most have disease-fighting capabilities, anti-inflammatory properties, and are well known to researchers. Marijuana contains numerous phytocannabinoids, including the most common THCA and CBDA. Consuming raw marijuana releases the phytocannabinoids to the body in their inactive state.

FACT: Unless carboxylation occurs, one cannot suffer the psychoactive effects associated with the plant. THCA and CBDA are only converted to THC AND CBD through heat (Source).

Both are used in the treatment of depression, autism, and some forms of cancers. Although research on the effects of Phytocannabinoids continues, the results achieved so far are nothing short of impressive.
